It was narrated that Sa’d bin ‘Ubadah said: “I said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, my mother has died; shall I give in charity on her behalf?’ He said: ‘Yes.’ I said: ‘What kind of charity is best?’ He said: ‘Providing drinking water.”
In the above hadith, the Prophet (SAW) recommended water as the best charity to give in someone’s name. Every time someone breaks their fast using this water; every time someone wears the clothes washed with that water; every time someone eats a vegetable grown from that water – both of you will be rewarded for that.

Surah As-Sajdah, Verse 32
أَوَلَمْ يَرَوْا أَنَّا نَسُوقُ الْمَاءَ إِلَى الْأَرْضِ الْجُرُزِ فَنُخْرِجُ بِهِ زَرْعًا تَأْكُلُ مِنْهُ أَنْعَامُهُمْ وَأَنفُسُهُمْ ۖ أَفَلَا يُبْصِرُونَ
” Have they not seen that We drive the water [in clouds] to barren land and bring forth thereby crops from which their livestock eat and [they] themselves? Then do they not see? “
